Java Developer (OpenMRS)

Project overview

Battlefield Health of one of Systematic product. It is a healthcare-focused project built on an open-source platform.
It sits at a unique intersection — it is the only product in the world combining Systematics 30+ years of defence expertise with its proven healthcare technology to manage patient tracking and flow from the point of incident to repatriation.

The position requires candidates to be based in Ukraine or in Poland.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend solutions using Java and Spring
• Work with OpenMRS (or similar open-source healthcare platforms), including configuration, customization, and extension
• Design and consume REST APIs and web services
• Participate in integration activities with external systems and services
• Work with relational databases and ensure data consistency and performance
• Contribute to accelerating OpenMRS knowledge within the team, including sharing best practices and platform usage guidance
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional roles in a healthcare domain context

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience with Java and Spring
• Hands-on experience with OpenMRS (Open Medical Record System) or experience with a similar open-source healthcare platform
• Good understanding of REST APIs and web services
• Experience working with relational databases
• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices
• Upper-Intermediate English or higher (spoken and written)
• A proactive and curious mindset, with openness to learning new technologies, tools, and domain knowledge – especially within healthcare and open-source ecosystems

Will be an advantage:

• Experience with healthcare standards such as FHIR or HL7
• Experience contributing to or participating in open-source communities
• Background in large-scale or complex healthcare projects
• Frontend experience, particularly with React
• Deeper familiarity with integration and configuration of healthcare platforms
