Barbara’s Journey at Conscensia: From Junior Developer to Team Lead
6. May 2026
When Barbara joined WhiteAway in 2021 through Conscensia, she wasn’t just looking for a new job – she was searching for a better way of working. At the time, she was based in a small town north of Warsaw, working at a local IT company where both the work culture and technology stack didn’t align with her ambitions. Having previously studied and worked in Denmark, she already knew what she was missing: a collaborative, respectful and trustful work environment.
Therefore, Barbara decided to return to the Danish job market – this time remotely. Conscensia and our Tech Hub in Warsaw was a perfect match for her, so when she saw a vacancy with WhiteAway, she applied, drawn by the promising technology stack and the chance to work in a culture she truly valued. Barbara hasn’t looked back since.
From Junior Developer to Team Lead
Barbara’s career at WhiteAway is a clear example of continuous growth and trust.
She began as a Junior Software Engineer, focusing on developing new features and getting familiar with modern technologies. As she progressed to a Mid-level role, her responsibilities expanded to include working with legacy systems, tasks that required precision, caution, and deeper system understanding.
Barbara‘s development didn’t stop there. Taking ownership as a feature lead, Barbara started driving initiatives end-to-end, from early scoping and planning to implementation and deployment. Her involvement in product development played a key role in her promotion to Senior Software Engineer.
Barbara shares; “Today I combine my senior technical role with being a Team Lead. In this position, I help shape the team’s roadmap alongside the Product Manager and Architect in Denmark, while also supporting my colleagues’ growth and well-being. I ensure tasks are aligned not just with business goals, but also with each developer’s strengths and personal ambitions.”
WhiteAways top management in Denmark is very satisfied with Barbara’s contributions and development. Anne-Mette Patscheider, Director of Tech Development at WhiteAway explains;

“When we had a vacant Tech Lead position, I had no doubt that Barbara should be offered this leadership position. Barbara is excellent at planning and executing, and she has good people skills, is extremely technically skilled and is interested in our business. She’s not just an external consultant; she’s deeply integrated into WhiteAway.”

Collaboration Without Borders
A defining feature of Barbara’s work is the cross-country collaboration between Poland and Denmark. Her team is split across locations, with backend developers in Poland and product, frontend, and design roles in Denmark.
Despite the geographical distance, the collaboration is efficient. Daily communication happens via Slack and Teams, supported by regular meetings and ad hoc check-ins. For Barbara, this setup feels natural as she has worked in international teams throughout her career.
What makes it work so well is not just the tools, but the shared experience and maturity of the teams. Over time, both sides have refined their way of working, making communication efficient, transparent and easy.
Driving Team Performance and Growth
As a Team Lead, Barbara takes a practical and people-focused approach to leadership, having regular sync sessions with her team. These conversations provide deeper insights into progress, challenges, and priorities than standard stand-ups. This approach enables better knowledge sharing, faster problem-solving and more flexible planning and prioritization.
Barbara highlights several reasons why she values her role and environment:
A Modern and Evolving Tech Stack: She works with a forward-looking setup including microservices architecture, TypeScript, AWS, and infrastructure as code. Just as importantly, the team continuously adopts new tools and frameworks, ensuring ongoing learning and avoiding stagnation.
Strong Collaboration and Talent: Barbara emphasizes the high level of professionalism among her colleagues in Denmark and Poland. She values the opportunity to work with people she can learn from – being developers, architects, and top management in WhiteAway.
Healthy Work-Life Balance: Flexibility is a key part of the culture. With hybrid work options 2 days per week, flexible hours, and understanding colleagues, she can balance professional responsibilities with personal life effectively.
Continuous Personal Development: Perhaps most importantly, Barbara appreciates the investment in her growth. From technical progression to interpersonal skills training, WhiteAway actively supports her development.
Reflecting on her career path – from Junior Engineer to Team Lead – she recognizes how much she has grown and values the trust and opportunities she has been given along the way.
Barbara’s story is ultimately about prioritizing development of skills, ambitions, and work environment. Through Conscensia and WhiteAway, she found more than a job; she experienced a work culture and career path that allowed her to grow into a leader.
Barbara’s journey shows how the right combination of technology, trust, and collaboration can turn a change in job into a successful career move with long-term perspective.
